Lan, tell us about your cultural experiences! November 2023 Issue

The 28th Matsudo International Culture Festival hosted by the Matsudo International Exchange Association (MIEA) was held on October 21st, 2023. 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Vietnam. In order to celebrate this milestone, a Vietnam stage and a Vietnam corner were set up at the festival.
Being a Vietnamese, I was involved in each stage of the preparations.
I contacted a Vietnamese band in Japan called “MELODY” and Oguri Kumiko, one of the few professional artists playing the Vietnamese folk instrument called “T’rung” and invited them to perform at the event. Thankfully, both of them accepted my invitations.
The Vietnamese students from Ryutsu Keizai University helped with the Lunar New Year decorations at the Vietnam corner. All decorations were handmade by the students and they looked very nice.

Besides, my colleague in the Internationalization Promotion Division applied for the Vietnam stage and the Vietnam corner to be used as a project to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Vietnam to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We got approval and permission to use 50th anniversary logo at the festival.
On the day of the event, many visitors stopped by the Vietnam corner. Some were Vietnamese parents with their kids and some were Japanese who had traveled to Vietnam.
The MELODY band only sang in Vietnamese so it must have been difficult for Japanese people to understand but I hope the performance could bring some sense of what popular Vietnamese music is like.
The performance of T’rung by Oguri Kumiko, needless to say, was amazing. Audiences also had a chance to play T’rung together with the artist which made the stage exctiting.
I was very happy that Matsudo was able to hold an event to introduce Vietnamese music and culture on the memorable year of diplomatic relations between Japan and Vietnam.

2023年10月21日に松戸市国際交流協会が主催する第28回松戸市国際文化祭が開催されました。2023年に、日本とベトナムは外交関係樹立50周年を迎えますので、これを記念してベトナムのステージとベトナムの紹介コーナーが設置されました。
ベトナム出身である私は、もちろん準備段階から携わりました。
私は「MELODY」という在日ベトナム人のバンドとベトナムの民族楽器「トルン」を演奏する数少ないプロ奏者である小栗久美子氏に連絡し松戸市国際文化祭での演奏をお願いしました。ありがたいことに、「MELODY」バンドも小栗久美子氏も依頼を受けてくださいました。
ベトナムの紹介コーナーでの旧正月の飾り物は流通経済大学のベトナム人留学生たちにもご協力頂きました。飾り物は全て、留学生たちの手作りでとても素敵でした。

それと同時に国際推進課の同僚がこのベトナムのステージとベトナムの紹介コーナーを日越外交関係樹立50周年事業として外務省へ申請し、認定されたことで50周年のロゴマークをイベントで使用できるようになりました。
当日は多くの方がベトナムの紹介コーナーに立ち寄りました。子供連れのベトナム人家族もいれば、ベトナムを旅行したことがある日本人もいました。
「MELODY」バンドはベトナム語だけで歌い、歌の内容は日本人の来場者に伝わらなかったかもしれませんが、ベトナムの流行の音楽はこんな感じだなぁと感じて頂けたら嬉しいです。
小栗久美子氏によるトルンの演奏は言うまでもなく素晴らしかったです。後半は来場者との演奏もあり、大変盛り上がりました。
日越外交関係を記念すべき年には、ベトナムの音楽や文化を紹介するイベントを実施でき、とても嬉しかったです。
