Lan, tell us about your cultural experiences! March 2023 Issue

In recent years, the number of Vietnamese people living in Matsudo city has increased rapidly, reaching 2.822 people by the end of October 2022 (according to Matsudo city Hall’s data), being the second largest after Chinese people. 2023 marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Vietnam, in order to deepen exchanges between Vietnamese and Japanese people in Matsudo city, the Internationalization Promotion Division of Matsudo city Hall decided to hold read-aloud events of a picture book named “Tomodachi” (Friends). This picture book was written by Hiroyuki Aihara, a popular Japanese picture book author, and illustrated by Dom Dom, an young Vietnamese female illustrator, with the theme of friendship.
The picture book was read aloud alternately in Japanese and Vietnamese. Volunteers from the Matsudo library were in charge of Japanese reading, and I was in charge of Vietnamese reading.
Because of having no experience in reading aloud, I had to practice with Japanese readers several times. I was very happy to be praised “You’ve improved” at the second of the events we held.

The events were held in a community room of a big shopping mall in Matsudo city. We planned to hold 3 events, two in November and December 2022, and one in February 2023. However, due to the situation of the new coronavirus infection, the second event was cancelled. Total number of participants (parents and children) was about 270. Unfortunately, the number of Vietnamese participants was small.
With the help of the company that cooperated in publishing the picture book, we also did a live broadcast with Hanoi, the captital of Vietnam at the events. We did quizzes about Vietnam and introduced some sight-seeing spots as well as street scenes in Hanoi. By showing my hometown through livestream, I hoped that Japanese people would have more interest in Vietnamese culture and tourism.
I learned a lot during those events and felt that I had growned up more myself.

近年、松戸市に住んでいるベトナム人が急増して、2022年10月末日時点に2,822人で（松戸市　統計データより）、中国に次いで2番目となります。また、2023年は日越外交関係樹立50周年を迎えることもあって、松戸市におけるベトナム人と日本人との交流を深めるために、日本の人気絵本作家であるあいはらひろゆき氏と、ベトナムの若い女性イラストレーターのドムドム氏が、友情をテーマに共同で作った「トモダチ」という絵本の読み聞かせのイベントを企画しました。
読み聞かせは日本語とベトナム語で交互に行い、日本語の読み手は松戸市立図書館の読み聞かせボランティアの方が担当、ベトナム語の読み手は私が担当しました。
私は読み聞かせの経験がまったくなかったので、図書館の方と何度か練習しなければなりませんでした。イベントの2回目で「上達したね」と褒められ、とても嬉しかったです。

読み聞かせは松戸市にある大きな商業施設のコミュニティールームで行われました。2022年11月、12月と2023年2月に3回開催する予定でしたが、12月のイベントは新型コロナウイルス感染症の状況を鑑みて、中止となりました。2回に渡る参加者は親子で約270名でした。残念ながら、ベトナム人の参加者は少なかったです。
イベントでは、読み聞かせの他、絵本の制作に協力した会社のご協力で、ベトナムの首都であるハノイと生中継をして、ベトナムについてのクイズ大会をしながら、ハノイの観光スポットや街の様子を紹介できました。自分の故郷を生中継でお見せすることで、日本人の市民がベトナムの文化や観光への関心を少しでも持って頂けたら嬉しいです。
あまり経験がなかった分野でイベントを実施して、色々と勉強になり、一歩成長できたと感じました。
