Celebrating sister-city friendship with art
Matsudo City and the City of Whitehorse in Australia recently celebrated 45 years of sister-city friendship. To commemorate this exciting milestone, the Matsudo International Exchange Association (MIEA) and the Whitehorse City Council collaborated to arrange an art exchange project for primary school children. Students from Samukazedai Primary School in central Matsudo had their paintings sent to Whitehorse and exhibited in the Box Hill Community Art Centre during May. And in exchange, student artwork from Whitehorse was exhibited in the Matsudo Municipal Museum and at City Hall. Nice idea, right?!
Each group's paintings had their own cultural flavour - distinct landscapes, sports, and even foods. The Aussie imagery was a 'blast from the past' of sorts for me, reminding me of my own childhood spent just 10 minutes away in the city adjoining Whitehorse!

市立博物館の展示会
アートで姉妹都市友好を祝う
2016年、松戸市とオーストラリアにあるホワイトホース市は、1971年5月12日に姉妹都市として提携してから45周年記念を迎えました。この重要な節目を祝うため、松戸市国際交流協会（MIEA）はホワイトホース市と協力し、小学生向けのアートエクスチェンジ・プロジェクトを企画しました。寒風台小学校の児童が描いた作品がホワイトホース市に送られ、5月中の一ヶ月間ボックス・ヒル・アート・センターに展示されました。ホワイトホース市の児童が描いた作品は市立博物館と市役所一階の連絡通路に展示しました。いいアイデアでしょう！
両市の児童たちの作品にはそれぞれの文化の薫りがありました― 風景、スポーツ、食べ物までも異なっていました。生徒たちの作品を見ていたら、ホワイトホース市から10分ほどの隣町で過ごした自分の子供時代のことを思い出しました。児童たちの作品に描かれた"オージー"の背景が懐かしかったです！
