　I’m a resident of Matsudo City, but there are so many things I am wholly unaware of. Every day I pass by secret paths, stores selling traditionally-made food, and ancient overpasses, but I rarely think deeply about what they all mean. Where does this path lead? Why is this food still made using traditional methods? When was this overpass made?

　The MATSUDO PAPER newspaper shines light on a hidden world in Matsudo, and also grants me the insight to have these kinds of questions. Every edition has a different theme and oftentimes the theme explores something historic about Matsudo, but I think every edition brings something deeply interesting to think about. For example, the most recent edition talks about old pedestrian overpasses in Matsudo. Back in 1965, rapid growth in road and rail infrastructure caused a marked increase in pedestrian accidents, a problem Japan tackled with overpasses. However, as time passed, their rust waxed and their usefulness waned. The paper looks at this phenomenon, but also shows how these overpasses can be seen as art pieces full of engineering ingenuity to moon over. I still use this particular overpass (refer to picture) every day, but I still found the article enlightening.

　私は松戸の住民ですが、松戸市について気が付かなかったことが多くあります。秘密の道、伝統的に調理された料理が食べられるお店、ずっと昔に建設された歩道橋などを毎日通りながら、それらの意味を深く考えることがあります。この道はどこまで続くのだろう。あの料理はなぜ伝統に忠実に作られているのだろう。この歩道橋はいつ建設されたのだろう。

　MATSUDO PAPERは松戸市の隠れた世界を紹介し、このような疑問を持たせてくれます。毎号それぞれテーマがあり、多くの場合何かしら歴史的なことについての説明もあり、いつも興味深いと感じます。例えば、最新版は松戸市内の古い歩道橋について紹介しています。1965年の頃、車道や鉄道技術の勃興のため歩行者事故が増えましたから、日本は歩道橋で対策しました。しかし、時間が経つにつれて、錆は増え、有用性は減りました。この新聞はこの現象について話しますが、それと共に歩道橋は意匠惨憺の例に富む芸術として鑑賞できるところについても発表します。この歩道橋（写真を参照）を毎日使いますのに、この記事に啓発されました。
